The Matukai were an ancient organization of Force adepts who used the physical body to channel the Force. The balance of the physical and spiritual was the cornerstone of their philosophy. Strenuous exercises and meditation allowed even those with a weak Force connection to maximize their abilities and connection with the Force. Their robes, which were similar to Jedi ones (apart from their green and white coloring), were designed to help achieve this balance. They would also be distinguished from others by a tattoo that decorated their foreheads and covered parts of their eyes. This philosophy is believed to have originated between the eras of the Great Sith War and the First Jedi Purge. The Matukai began with a woman from Kravoss II who was a student of martial arts and discovered her sensitivity to the Force while performing meditation. She would later teach those Force-sensitive students of her techniques and the group gradually grew larger until it reached its limit of sixty individuals. The Jedi Order displayed a passing interest in the organization but never interfered as the majority of the group were too old for training in the ways of the Jedi. Furthermore, the numbers of the Matukai never went above the core sixty followers taught by the founder of the group, which made their numbers too few. Like most Force-based organizations at the time, the Matukai would suffer heavily during the days of the Great Jedi Purge at the conclusion of the Clone Wars, though many managed to hide and survive. Late in the era of the New Republic, some Matukai joined Luke Skywalker's Jedi Order. They would do so because they found Skywalker's teachings to be far more open and flexible compared to those of the Jedi of old.

Matukai Talent Tree

Adjust Body Temperature I—You gain a +5 bonus to your Fortitude defense against the effects of extreme heat or cold.

Adjust Body Temperature II—
As a standard action, you can increase or decrease your body temperature to extreme levels. Your skin deals 1d3 points of damage to any creature or object that contacts you (stacking with unarmed combat damage) until the end of your next turn. You take 1 point of damage at the end of your next turn.

As a standard action, you can also adjust your body temperature in order that you become "invisible" to heat detection such as thermal cameras. This ability lasts for as long as you maintain it (requiring another standard action each round), but you take 1 point of damage at the end of each round in which it is active.
Prerequisites: Adjust Body Temperature I.

Soft to Solid—You can shift your form to give your flesh incredible rigidity for a number of rounds per day equal to your character level, granting yourself DR 2. You may use Soft to Solid all at once, or can separate these rounds throughout the day if you wish.

Weapon Kata—Any time you make an attack against a single target with a wan-shen, you may spend a force point as a swift action to make an additional attack at your full attack bonus. This does not replace your move action.

Matukai Feats

WAN-SHEN MASTERY
Prerequisites: Weapon Focus (Wan-Shen), Weapon Kata Matukai Talent.
Benefits: You may wield a Wan-Shen as though it were a one-handed weapon.
Normal: A Wan-Shen is a two-handed weapon.

Matukai Equipment

WAN-SHEN
Large Exotic Melee
Damage: 1d10
Weight: 4.8kg
Type: Slashing
Availability: Unavailable for Sale

A member of the Matukai tradition counts the Wan-Shen as a simple weapon.

A Matukai with at least seven heroic levels can make their own wan-shen. The process for doing so is identical to that of making a lightsaber, and with the same result - the Matukai gains a +1 bonus on attack rolls made with their personal weapon.

This is my version of the Wan-Shen. I agree with the version under Exotic Weapons except for one detail - I don't believe a Wan-Shen, as a fairly simple polearm, qualifies as exotic. Sure only the Matukai use them, but they don't strike me as a weapon it would be difficult for someone else to pick up and swing. A Matukai's expertise with the weapon is already cemented with their Weapon Kata talent and Wan-Shen mastery feat, and it's exclusive enough to them already with the "Not for sale" note.

Well, I realised today that +2 to Fort against heat/cold wasn't that good, considering you can spend a few credits to get +5 against the same thing with an All-temperature Cloak. Even if they do stack, it just wasn't incentive enough. I've therefore increased the bonus to +5. A Matukai with Adjust Body and the cloak can get a pretty sweet +10 - that seems well worth a talent.

Perhaps the Matukai would be a good place to put a talent that contains the body heat in order to ignore thermal cameras, like Mara Jade does in Betrayal. Something like becoming invisible to heat detection but every round taking damage equal to the number of rounds you have been using it perhaps?
